The start of the 2023 Great Lakes shipping season will be officially inaugurated when the Poe Lock, under the management of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District, Soo Project Office, opens at 12:01 a.m. on March 25. The start of the operating season is predetermined by federal regulations, taking into account typical ice conditions in the Great Lakes region that may impact vessel operations.
