Robert Burns, a member of the Friends of Detroit River group, stated that the population of beavers is on the rise in the area due to the increasing habitable areas for the species. Burns mentioned that there has been a noticeable increase in the number of beavers in the last decade or so. He also explained that beavers usually look for isolated locations that provide year-round access to water and food sources, which makes the spots along the Detroit River an ideal habitat for them. Burns concluded that this increase in the beaver population indicates a favorable change in the river's ecosystem.
