Among the distinctive features of the Detroit Public Library system is the Burton Historical Collection, a vast archive that is one of Michigan's largest. Francis Grunow, an amateur historian, had first acquainted himself with the Burton Collection while studying at Cass Tech High School, where he focused on conducting research on Ferry Street. Later, during his time in law school, he had the opportunity to utilize the collection while delving into the history that would form the basis of the historic Marche Du Nain Rouge Parade.
