Ford details $3.5 billion electric vehicle battery plant to be built in Marshall

Ford Motor Co. plans to build a $3.5 billion factory in Michigan by 2026, to produce batteries for electric vehicles with lithium-iron-phosphate chemistry, which is cheaper than the current technology. The plant, near the city of Marshall, is expected to employ at least 2,500 people and would produce batteries for up to 400,000 vehicles annually, making EVs more accessible and affordable for customers. The batteries will offer consumers the option of choosing between a lower range and cost, or higher range and power at a higher cost.
