Great Lakes freighter freed after running aground near Belle Isle

A 639-foot Great Lakes freighter carrying 21,000 tons of salt was temporarily stranded in the Detroit River near Belle Isle after running aground. The vessel, named M/V Mark W. Barker, was on its way to Milwaukee from Cleveland when it got stuck close to the Dossin Great Lakes Museum. After several hours, with the aid of a tugboat and commercial towing, the freighter was successfully freed by early afternoon.
