Nessel backs a new way to close Line 5 in federal court

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has shown support for the Bad River Band of the Lake Superior Tribe of Chippewa Indians in their pursuit of an emergency shutdown of a portion of Enbridge's Line 5 pipeline. The band filed a motion for injunctive relief, arguing that erosion has endangered the riverbank and poses a risk to the pipeline's integrity. Nessel filed an amicus brief in support of the band's efforts, highlighting recent erosion events that have significantly reduced the distance between the pipeline and the water in the Bad River near Superior, Wisconsin.
